Gundabad Orcs continued to fight during the War of the Ring in the battles of the north. During the Battle of Five Armies, this army arrived late-battle under Bolg's command. An army of war Orcs were bred in the mountain under the command of the Necromancer in Dol Guldur through his commanders Azog and Bolg. Around the year TA 2941, a group of Hunter Orcs from Gundabad under the command of Azog the Defiler set out to hunt Thorin Oakenshield and his company on their journey to the Lonely Mountain. They were known for their hunting capabilities and breeding and riding of Gundabad Wargs. Gundabad Orcs developed into a stronger bloodline of hardy Orcs. Gundabad began as a stronghold for the Orcs of the Misty Mountains and was close by the lands of Angmar which allowed for the two facets of evil to support each other during the War of Angmar. This led to the eventual forming of a city in Mount Gundabad where the ruins of a Dwarf stronghold remained. Orcs from Angband arrived in the Misty Mountains after Morgoth's defeat during the First Age.
